A DREAM PLAY
"We meet, we dream, we love, we strive, we lose, we argue and we suffer. And we find comfort, reflect, admit – and get confused again. Over and over again. A dream play is theater and circus in an enchanting encounter about human life."
In the spring 2024 theater director Katrine Wiedeman and circus director Tilde Björfors reunited as they took on August Strindbergs beloved A Dream Play at Malmö City Theatre together with set designer Maja Ravn. Actors and circus artists meet in a breathtaking experience where the two art forms flow together, in a shuddering, poignant, dangerous, beautiful and true representation of human life, whose basic dilemmas are not very different from Strindberg's time. Tilde Björfors and Katrine Wiedeman began their more than 20-year collaboration when they staged an iconic production of Romeo and Juliet at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm 2002. The performance become one of the theatre´s most performed productions and was invited to Wiener Festwoche. Now there are dreams of further developing A Dream Play in an even more physical form where Strindbergs razor-sharp language is translated into the language of circus in a touring production.
